Orthomol Natal contains a combination of folic acid and quatrefolic, an active form of folic acid that is available to the body without prior conversion and therefore has higher bioavailability. Folic acid contributes to normal maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. Supplemental folic acid intake increases folate levels in pregnant women. Low folate levels in pregnant women are a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. The positive effect is achieved with a supplemental intake of 400 µg folic acid daily for a period of at least one month before and up to three months after conception. (Target group: women of childbearing age.) Maternal intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contributes to the normal development of the brain and eyes in the fetus and breastfed infant. Note for pregnant and breastfeeding women: The positive effect is achieved with a daily intake of 200 mg DHA, in addition to the recommended daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids of 250 mg DHA and EPA.

Orthomol Natal in granules/capsules is lactose- and gluten-free. The gelatin contained is bovine. This product contains iodine. If you suffer from thyroid dysfunction, please consult your doctor before use. If you have impaired glucose tolerance, use only under careful metabolic control (6.4 g carbohydrates per daily serving). Neural tube defects can have causes other than an inadequate folic acid supply. Therefore, increasing folate levels cannot always prevent the development of neural tube defects. During pregnancy, the need for iron and often also the need for magnesium is particularly high. Therefore, additional intake of these substances may be necessary under certain circumstances. Your gynecologist will be happy to advise you. The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.
