NOBITE thinner (active ingredient 5% permethrin) Suitable for children from 2 years of age and pregnant women.
Characteristics
Protects against bites from arthropods that transmit diseases (including Lyme disease, malaria, dengue fever, Zika, etc.) or are simply annoying.
40% of mosquito bites penetrate clothing. In a double-blind randomized study, permethrin-impregnated clothing alone reduced the risk of leishmaniasis by 79% and malaria by 75% (CID 1995; 21/599-602).
Effective against wasps and hornets (Ann Dermatol Veneor 1992 (119): 411-34).
Particularly effective against ticks: after contact with permethrin, 100% of ticks are unable to bite after 15 seconds. (Med Clin North Am 2002; 86: 219-38).
Application
Impregnation of mosquito nets, insect nets, curtains and bed sheets:
Dilute the contents of the bottle (100 ml) with 1 liter of water in a bathtub or a larger container. Soak fabrics (a total of 24 square meters) until the water is absorbed, then knead thoroughly and lay flat to dry. The remaining water can be used to impregnate additional fabrics until the liquid is used up. The duration of the treatment is 2 months.
Waterproofing of clothing:
Pour the contents of the bottle (100 ml) into a spray bottle with 200 ml of water (2 times the contents of the empty bottle) and shake vigorously. This mixture can waterproof up to 14 items of clothing, providing protection for up to 4 weeks. Once dry, the textiles are odorless after use. Re-waterproof after washing.
Contraindications
Do not use if allergic to any of the substances. Except for impregnated nets, do not use on children under 2 years of age. Pregnancy is not a contraindication.
Notes
Do not inhale.
Do not swallow.
Apply only to the outside of clothing.
Toxic to aquatic organisms and cats.
Approximately 40% of mosquito bites occur through clothing. Treated clothing has a dual protective effect: a knockout effect upon contact and a repellent effect. In clinical studies, only impregnated clothing achieved 75% protection against malaria and 79% against leishmaniasis.
Impregnating clothing provides very high protection against ticks!
Information on preventing infectious diseases through protection against insect bites (exposure prophylaxis)
Many infectious diseases transmitted by insects cannot be treated or are difficult to treat.
The most important measures are therefore to prevent infected mosquitoes and other carriers of infectious diseases from biting or stinging and thus transmitting pathogens.
In combination and correctly applied, these measures, listed and explained in detail below, reduce the probability of transmission by over 90%!
With very few exceptions, malaria-transmitting mosquitoes (gray-brown Anopheles mosquitoes) only bite between sunset and sunrise. 90% of malaria infections are transmitted between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Therefore, increased caution is advised in high-risk areas during this time, for example, limiting outdoor time to the necessary minimum.
Many other diseases are also transmitted by day-biting mosquitoes such as Aedes mosquitoes or sand flies; there are also diurnal and nocturnal insects.
The following measures for all-day mosquito protection are useful:
1. Insect repellent for application to the skin
To date, products based on diethyltoluamide (DEET) and icaridin have proven to be the most effective worldwide. They are the only two scientifically tested substances that guarantee sufficient effectiveness against mosquitoes and other vectors (ticks, mites, etc.).
DEET
Depending on the concentration, the following duration of protection results (influenced by activity, sweating, individual factors): DEET 20%: 1 to 3 hours, 30%: up to 6 hours, 50%: up to 12 hours.
Concentrations below 20% are not recommended. Concentrations above 50% offer no additional protection. Therefore, the lower the concentration, the more frequently reapplication is required. Prolonged use at high concentrations can cause skin irritation, liver function changes, and nervous system disorders.
Icaridin (also Picaridin, Bayrepel)
The repellent icaridin has a repellent effect comparable to DEET. The percutaneous systemic absorption of icaridin is lower than that of DEET. Concentrations below 20% are not recommended.
DEET and icaridin are also suitable for use by pregnant women, nursing mothers, and infants with restrictions. Please refer to the respective package insert.
